The York University Lions men's soccer team is back atop the U SPORTS totem pole. 

The Lions are off to a 5-0 start, including a 5-1 win over the Windsor Lancers on Friday night, and, with that win, have surpassed the UBC Thunderbirds for the top spot in this week's Top 10, as announced by the national office on Monday afternoon. 

York is the country's only five-win team, and is one of just three teams in the nation to win each of its games so far on the young season, alongside Montreal (4-0-0) and St. FX (3-0-0). The Lions enter play this week five points clear of the Laurier Golden Hawks atop the OUA West as they search for their 19th straight division title, a run unmatched in U SPORTS men's soccer.

The Lions are no stranger to top spot in the national rankings, having been nationally ranked the entirety of each of the last eight seasons dating back to the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 3 of 2017. Over that time, the Lions have been ranked No. 1 a total of 10 times, including 8 consecutive weeks from Sept. 12, 2022 through the conclusion of that season. They have been ranked outside the top five just 12 times over that span, and never any lower than eighth (Oct. 24, 2023). 

While leading the country in wins, the Lions also boast two of the top five leaders in goals, including Christian Zeppieri's U SPORTS-leading seven goals, five assists and 12 points. He is one goal clear of Toronto's Niklas Hallam and two ahead of TMU's Taha Illyass and his Lions teammate Anthony Morano. He also leads the country in points with 12, three ahead of UBC's Max Comsia. Zeppieri has scored in three consecutive games and four of the five in which the Lions have played this season.

The Lions will travel North to Sault Ste. Marie this weekend for a pair of games against the Algoma Thunderbirds. Both Saturday and Sunday's games begin at 3:15 p.m., and are available free of charge live on OUA TV.
