The York University Lions field hockey team took on the McMaster Marauders on Saturday morning at Alumni Field, coming in off their win over the Guelph Gryphons last week.
It was a feeling out process for both teams early, as the game remained scoreless after a calm and quiet first quarter. Four minutes into the second, York's Katie Tye sent the ball into the box to put York on the board, giving them a 1-0 lead. The ball stayed within the Marauders half for most of the quarter, but despite some quality chances for York, some great defense from the Marauders kept it a one-goal game. However, in the 27th minute, Avery Davis scored to double the Lions lead. The score stayed 2-0 going into the half.
It was a calm third quarter, and also into the beginning of the fourth, with the Lions maintaining their two-goal advantage and holding the Marauders without a shot on Ella Ciesielski Late into the fourth quarter, with under four minutes to play Davis scored off of a penalty corner for her second of the day, and the game ended 3-0 in favour of the hosts.
LOOKING AHEAD:
The Lions will finish off their weekend in Waterloo tomorrow afternoon when they take on the Warriors. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
