York University Lions field hockey player Avery Davis and men's soccer player Avery Davis have been named York athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 20.

Davis, a fifth-year midfielder from Stratford, Ont., scored twice for the Lions in their 3-0 win over the McMaster Marauders on Saturday at Alumni Field. The Criminology major and graduate of St. Michael C.S.S. provided some insurance for her side in the waning minutes of the second quarter to make it a 2-0 game. She then salted it away with her second of the game with just under four minutes remaining to secure the Lions second victory of the year. The first multi-goal game of Davis' career, she has now equalled her career high in goals in a season with two, which she has now attained for a third consecutive season.

Davis and the Lions will head back out on the road for a rare Thursday night affair in Guelph against the Gryphons, and will be looking for an encore after their 6-0 win over Guelph in their home opener on Sept. 13. They will return home to face the Toronto Varsity Blues for the second and final time this season on Sunday at 11:00 am, aiming to avenge a season-opening 1-0 loss to Toronto on Sept. 12. Admission to Sunday's game is free.

Morano, a second-year forward from nearby Woodbridge, Ont., kept up his torrid pace to start the 2026 season by scoring a pair of goals for the Lions in their 5-1 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie. Morano, an English major, registered both the opening and winning goals in Saturday's contest, opening the scoring less than four minutes in and adding to the lead in the 18th minute with his second of the day. He now has seven goals on the season, good for second in the country behind only his teammate Christian Zeppieri and Niklas Hallam of the Toronto Varsity Blues, who each have eight.

Morano and the Lions – who remained No. 1 in the latest U SPORTS Top 10 rankings released Monday afternoon – return home to York Lions Stadium to battle the Laurier Golden Hawks on Friday night on Alumni Night, as they look for their first 8-0 start to the season in program history.
