RULES AND REGULATIONS

Intramural Ball Hockey

The rules of the current York University Intramural Program are applied and modified as follows:

  • A team consists of four players and a goaltender. Teams may have a maximum of twelve players on their roster.
  • A team will default if they are not ready to play their scheduled match within five minutes of the scheduled start time.
  • All sticks must have a plastic or fibreglass blade. Any blade that has wood under the fibreglass is illegal. If unsure about the stick, please check with the intramural office.
  • There will be no offsides.
  • Each game will consist of two, 15-minute halves with a two-minute half-time.
  • Body contact is not allowed. Any intentional body checks may result in ejection from the tournament.
  • Any player receiving a major penalty is automatically ejected from the game. Two major penalties in the tournament will result in elimination from the tournament.
  • High sticking will be called above the waist. Back-swings and follow-through will be considered high sticking.
  • No player may be added to the roster once the first game has started.
  • All coincidental minors will be offsetting.
  • Any player who receives three minor penalties will be ejected from the game.
  • There will be zero tolerance of rough play after the whistle. Equipment Regulations:
    • Sticks must be supplied by the teams.
    • Tape is not permitted on any stick.
    • Standard goal equipment is permitted.
    • Player shin, knee, elbow pads and gloves are permitted and recommended.
    • Helmets and face-masks are strongly recommended.
    • Mouth guards are strongly recommended.
