RULES AND REGULATIONS

Intramural Indoor Soccer

  • Games are played by two teams, with four players and a goaltender on the field for each team at any given time.
  • Teams must be ready to play at the scheduled times. There will be a 10 minute default time for teams who are late. If the team is not ready to play after 10 minutes a default score of 1-0 will be recorded. Two defaults will result in elimination from the league.
  • All games will be played in the Student Fieldhouse West.
  • The duration of the game shall be two 15 minute halves.
  • Unlimited substitutions shall be allowed on the fly only.
  • The ball is out of play when:
    • it goes over the players sideline
    • it hits the ceiling
    • it is trapped behind or at the side of the goal
    • It is trapped in players bench
      •  
          All of the above will be treated as an indirect free kick
  • Ties at the end of regulation will stand in the preliminary games.
  • Ties in playoffs will be followed by a series of five penalty kicks. If still tied, sudden death penalty kicks will be in effect.
  • All players on the team must take a penalty kick before another player may take a second kick.
  • Serious or deliberate fouls may be penalized with a 2 minute penalty to the aggressor.
  • One red card or the accumulation of three yellow cards will result in the elimination of that player from the league.
  • The team receiving the red card will play one man short for 5 minutes regardless of any goals being scored.
  • Any player leaving the bench to engage in an altercation will be ejected from the tournament.
  • Teams must be ready to play at the appointed time. A team may play one person short. Fewer than four players will result in a default.
  • When a free kick is awarded, the opposing team must be at least 10 feet from the ball. All free kicks are indirect except, in the penalty area where a major foul by a defender will result in a penalty kick.
  • The goalkeeper clears the ball by kicking or throwing. The ball must hit the floor before it crosses the center line.
  • Slide tackling is not permitted.
  • There are no offsides.
