MISSION: 

A space created by student-athletes, for student-athletes, that is catered to the experiences and lives of black and indigenous varsity students. It is a space maintained so students can address their concerns and questions so that meaningful change can come about. It will be used to educate and enhance the varsity community so that they are better equipped to challenge themselves and the people around them in critically thinking about the world. Our hope is for York to be at the forefront of change so that we continue to set the bar high for future generations to come after us. Our hope is through gathering information from the black and indigenous students we can use their experiences to create long-term change within the York University varsity athletics community.  We will use educational training to facilitate endless learning opportunities as well as collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.

• Training students and staff on a variety of topics
• Diversified guest speakers to bring varied perspectives

Accountability

• Ensuring transparency is increased within the Athletics & Recreation department
• Increased communication between department administration, coaches and student-athletes

Outreach

• Partnerships with Shoreham Public School
• Book donations for local schoolchildren

Advocacy

• Speaking up for injustices being faced by marginalized groups
• Supporting the process to change systems currently in place

Alumni Relations

• Connecting current student-athletes with alumni already excelling in their chosen fields
