COACH Sarbazi, Bahman

Bahman Sarbazi

Bahman Sarbazi has been involved with the York wrestling club since 2008 and is the first head coach of the program after it returned to varsity status in 2012.

Sarbazi previously spent 11 years (1991-01) coaching athletes in the Iranian national program at the junior, juvenile and adult levels. He was the coach of Fardin Masoumi, who won a silver medal at the world championships and was a three-time Asian Games champion. Under his tutelage, Anton Shchipillo, who previously wrestled for York’s wrestling club, won the bronze medal at the 2010 Pan American Junior Championships in the freestyle competition, while Dusan Milakara was crowned the Canadian junior national champion in 2007.

Sarbazi came to Canada following that stint and, in addition to coaching York’s wrestling club, is a coach at Xtreme Couture Toronto. He is also an accomplished wrestler in his own right, winning 11 club championships in Iran.
