LIONS POST BIG RESULTS AT AKRON INVITATIONAL

The York University Lions track and field team was in Akron, Ohio, this past weekend for the 2015 Akron Invitational and returned home with plenty of big performances under their belts.

The team combined to record six podium finishes at the meet, including a trio of gold medals by Sheereen Harris (Toronto), Jameel Brown (Brampton, Ont.) and Lucas Watson (Truro, N.S.).

Harris finished in first place in the 200m Blue Division with a personal-best time of 24.71 seconds, and Brown turned the same trick in the men's 200m with a time of 22 seconds flat. Watson's gold medal came in the 400m Blue Division in a personal-best time of 50.05 seconds, and he was joined on the podium by teammate Jalen Pidlubny (Scarborough, Ont.), who came in just behind him in second place in a time of 50.59 seconds, also a personal best.

Brown, Watson and Pidlubny also found the podium in the 4x400m relay, helping the Lions win the bronze medal with a time of 3:21.10.

Rounding out the medals was Holly Pitters (Mississauga, Ont.), who won the silver medal in the long jump Gold Division with a distance of 5.79 metres.

The Lions will be heading back to Windsor, Ont., this weekend, site of the upcoming CIS championships, for the Windsor Team Challenge. It is the team's final big meet of the season ahead of the OUA championships, which will be hosted by York at the Toronto Track and Field Centre Feb. 27-28.
