The York University Lions track and field team concluded their season in Winnipeg at the 2026 U SPORTS Track & Field Championships this past weekend. Following three days of competition, five Lions earned the distinction of Second Team All-Canadian honours on the national stage.
In the men's 300m race on the track, Brandon Choumbe Yami delivered a dominant performance by winning his preliminary heat and then in the final heat he powered through to a national silver medal. His time of 33.68s in the final earned him Second Team All-Canadian honours and marked a significant improvement of nearly a full second over the 34.41s that secured his provincial silver.
In the field events, Liam West bolstered the Lions medal count in the men's pole vault by securing a silver medal on the national stage. After earning bronze at the OUA championships with a 4.80m vault, West surpassed this mark and cleared 4.90m in Winnipeg to reach the national podium and lock in his Second Team All-Canadian honours.
Meanwhile, the men's 4x200m relay team, composed of Choumbe Yami, Ibrahim Moustafa, Samuel Pinceau, and Cameron Christian, also earned Second Team All-Canadian honours with a second-place finish. The foursome clocked a 1:26.94, shaving nearly half a second off the 1:27.47 time that won them OUA gold.
The five all-Canadians equal most the Lions have had since they also had five at the 2019 national meet also in Winnipeg.
