The York University Lions track and field team continued to add to its medal haul with another six on the second day of competition on Friday (March 13) at the CIS championships in Windsor, Ont.

The Lions won three gold medals, one silver and two bronze to bring their total for the weekend to 10 medals. The women's team is currently second in the team standings with 55 points, while the men sit third with 44 points. The Toronto Varsity Blues and Guelph Gryphons lead the women's and men's standings, respectively.

In a span of approximately 30 minutes at the end of the night the Lions found the podium five times to cap the evening on a high note. The excitement began in the shot put, where
Brittany Crew (East York, Ont.) won her second gold medal of the meet after capturing gold in the weight throw on Thursday. She finished with a distance of 15.88m, which was more than a full metre better than the rest of the field.

Teammates
Jacinta Cowan (Bala, Ont.) and
Fatim Ammor (Oakville, Ont.) also picked up points with strong performances, as Cowan finished fourth and Ammor reached her first national final en route to an eighth-place result.

Shortly after on the track,
Sheereen Harris (Toronto) and
Christy Ihumaegbo (East York, Ont.) raced to a 1-2 finish in the 300m. The two of them were ranked in the top three after the preliminaries earlier in the day, but they both ran past Toronto's Maggie Hanlon to reach the first two spots on the podium. Harris ran a 38.97, and Ihumaegbo crossed the finish line in a time of 39.31.

The Lions continued to dominate the sprint events when
Ayo Agusto (Lagos, Nigeria) won his first individual CIS gold medal with a tremendous run in the 300m final, finishing in a time of 34.00 seconds. The mark was also a new Nigerian national indoor record in the distance.

He was joined on the podium by
Bismark Boateng (Brampton, Ont.), who won his second medal of the championships with a bronze medal in the race, running a 34.57 out of the first section of the finals. He also won the gold medal in the 60m on Thursday.

The first medal of the day was won by
Eric Brathwaite (Brampton, Ont.), who finished third in the weight throw with a distance of 19.36m. The Lions had three scorers in the event, as
Chris Preece (Cookstown, Ont.) finished in fifth place and
Anojan Sivalingam (Scarborough, Ont.) was eighth.

The Lions have many more chances to win medals on the last day of the meet on Saturday, with athletes scheduled to compete in the men's shot put, pole vault and triple jump and the women's triple jump, as well as the 4x200m and 4x400m relays.
