TOP 10 OF THE SEASON: #4 - MEN’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM GOES TO CIS CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR FIRST TIME IN A DECADE

The York Lions are counting down the top 10 stories of the 2014-15 season! Stay tuned to yorkulions.ca over the next two weeks as we relive a tremendous year for our varsity programs. The No. 1 story will be unveiled on Friday, April 17.

The Lions men's volleyball team made an appearance at the CIS championships for the first time since 2005 thanks to a bronze-medal finish at the OUA Final Four Championships in Hamilton.

After a slow start to the season – the Lions were 8-7 and just inside the playoff picture in the conference with five games remaining – they went on a run down the stretch to win five matches in a row and move up to fourth place in the OUA standings, which earned them a home playoff game in the quarter-finals. The Lions then took down the Queen's Gaels to advance to the OUA semis for the second time in three years and, after a loss to the Waterloo Warriors, came back from two sets down to defeat the Windsor Lancers in five and win the bronze medal.

Seeded seventh at the CIS championships in Saskatoon, the Lions nearly completed another comeback from two sets down in the quarter-finals before falling 15-13 in the fifth to the second-seeded Dalhousie Tigers. They went on to defeat Waterloo in the consolation semifinals before a four-set defeat to host Saskatchewan that resulted in a sixth-place finish.
