The York Lions men's hockey team dropped their first game of the Mark Cross HumboldtStrong Remembrance Tour in a close 3-2 score to the Regina Cougars.

The Lions arrived in Saskatchewan on Wednesday night and spent Thursday morning visiting William Derby School, where Cross' went to elementary school in Strasbourg, Sask. The Lions are playing a three-game exhibition series in Saskatchewan, with Thursday's match being the first. York will travel to Humboldt to play the Calgary Dinos on Friday before wrapping up the tour in Saskatoon with a clash against the Saskatchewan Huskies on Sunday.

The tour will continue to raise money for the Mark Cross Memorial Sports Fund, with the announced total of funds raised on Thursday night was more than $4,500.

The Lions held a 2-1 lead late in the game before the Cougars tied it up late in the third period and won the game in overtime on a goal by Tyler King.
