The York University Lions men's hockey team lost to the Windsor Lancers in overtime on Friday night as the Lancers beat the Lions 3-2 at the Capri Pizzeria Recreation Complex.
It was in the third period where the Lancers, who fired 13 shots on goal in the final frame alone, were able to score two goals from Ian Parker and Ryan Barbosa to tie 2-2 with the Lions. The Lions and the Lancers went into overtime, where the Lancers scored once more just 16 seconds in, off the stick of Ethan Skinner, to steal the victory.
York's
Peter De Coppi was the sole scorer in the first period as he was able to clinch the first goal of the game on a power play with seconds remaining in the period. The Lions went into the second period leading 1-0.
First-year forward
Braydon Buziak, who scored his first goal last weekend against Queen's, scored the only goal in the second period of the game, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead. Buziak's goal was assisted by
Scott Feser and
Jeremy Lucchini and also came on the power play.
Though the Lions were unable to secure the win in overtime, their defensive end still proved to be strong throughout the game. Goaltender
Cole Ceci had a total of 45 saves out of 48 shots fired from the Lancers compared to the Lancers, who had just 23 saves to 25 shots fired by the Lions.
The Lions dropped to 2-3-1 with the loss, while the Lancers remained atop the OUA West Division with a 5-1-0 mark thanks to the comeback win.
The Lions are on the road tomorrow night as they take on the Western Mustangs in London, Ont. Puck drops at 7 pm.
