The York University Lions men's and women's tennis teams ended their regular seasons with convincing victories over the Brock Badgers at the Tait Tennis Courts on Saturday afternoon.
The men picked up their first win of the season with a sweep of the Badgers, earning all seven points. The women came close to matching the feat, earning a 6-1 victory. Also this weekend, the Lions faced the Montreal Carabins and were defeated in both matches, the men by a 7-0 score and the women 6-1.
Against the Badgers, the Lions cruised to wins in each of their matches and did not drop a set on the men's side.
Tegbir Hara,
Glenn Brisbois and
Andres Findlay each played two sets as part of their win, while
Andrew Razaev,
Nikola Janev and
Nicolas Cretu played tiebreak sets to eight games and, like their teammates, came out victorious.
The women Lions also rolled over the Badgers.
Anja Fimpel,
Annabelle Gelev and
Pakinam Elbouhi all won in straight sets, while
Sara Krupica won her match in a tiebreak set.
Vanesa Ereqi needed a third set to win her match, eventually prevailing 4-6, 6-4, 10-4, while
Randa Hassan suffered the lone loss for the team.
Krupica had a tremendous weekend as she also won both her singles and doubles matches against the Carabins, the lone Lion to do so.
Next up for the Lions is the OUA championships, which York will host at the Mayfair Tennis Club in Markham, Ont., this coming weekend. Action begins on Friday and will wrap up on Sunday with the medal matches.
