LIONS EDGED BY THUNDERWOLVES IN SECOND STRAIGHT MEETING

The York University Lions men's hockey team lost 3-2 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves on Saturday at Canlan Ice Sports in the second straight game between the two teams.

The first period of the game ended nil-nil for both teams, who had played each other the night before. The Lions were able to get five shots on goal while the Thunderwolves registered 12.

In the second period of the game, during a power play, the Thunderwolves put themselves on the scoreboard at 9:34 of the period. The Thunderwolves took a temporary 1-0 lead to the Lions.

York answered the visiting team just a minute later as Morgan Messenger found the back of Lakehead's net with assists from Scott Feser and Xavier Pouliot.

Soon after Messenger scored his second goal of the game with an assist from David D'Agostino and another one from Feser. The Lions then led 2-1 after the first period.

Though the Lions were leading before the final period of the game, the Thunderwolves were able to turn the game around in their favour as they scored two more goals in the third to take a 3-2 win against the Lions. Josh Laframboise scored at 5:48 and Jordan King netted the winning tally less than three minutes later.

York's goaltender Mack Shields saved 27 of Lakehead's 30 shots on goal while Lakehead's goaltender Nic Renyard finished with 25 saves.

The Lions will be heading downtown to play the Ryerson Rams on Friday, Jan 21 for their next contest. Puck drops at 7:15pm.
