Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

MOWBRAY'S HAT TRICK NOT ENOUGH AS RAMS COME BACK TO DEFEAT LIONS

Alex Mowbray scored a hat trick but it wasn't enough on Friday night as the Ryerson Rams used a four-goal third period to come back and defeat the York University Lions men's hockey team by a score of 6-5 at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.

Mowbray scored once in the first period and twice in the second, including a pair of goals two minutes apart right at the end of the middle frame, but the Rams tied the game with just under five minutes remaining and scored the winner with 1:48 left on the clock to steal the victory.

It was the Rams who opened the scoring just 1:52 into the game on a goal by Mathew Santos, but Mowbray's first of the night, on a power play midway through the period, levelled the score at one apiece. David Miller's tally at 16:30 gave the Rams a 2-1 advantage they carried into the first intermission.

A trio of goals in the second period pulled the Lions ahead 4-2 heading into the third. Sal Filice found the back of the net at 13:37, Mowbray scored on another power play at 17:47 and then with nine seconds remaining, he scored from a nearly impossible angle to put the Lions up by two.

The Rams wasted little time chipping away at the deficit. Matt Mistele netted a power play marker of his own three minutes into the third, but Morgan Messenger put the Lions back up by two at 5:11. From there it was all Ryerson, as Jesse Barwell, Matt Nosella and Steven Harland helped the Rams complete the comeback.

The triumph helped the Rams maintain their hold on second place in the OUA West Division standings with 32 points, while the Lions remain at the bottom of the division with 11 points.

The Lions will look to regroup on Saturday when they get back out on the ice, this time in Waterloo, Ont., for a contest against the Warriors. Puck drop is scheduled for 7pm at Columbia Ice Fields.
