LAKERS PULL AWAY IN SECOND QUARTER TO DEFEAT LIONS

The York University Lions men's basketball team was defeated by a score of 82-67 by the Nipissing Lakers on Friday afternoon in York's annual School Day Game at the Tait McKenzie Centre.

The two squads were deadlocked at 19 apiece after the opening quarter, but the Lakers wasted little time taking the lead in the second and, by the end of the frame, were up by eight at 43-35.

The second half played out in similar fashion as the two teams were even in the third quarter with 20 points each, but the Lakers padded their lead in the fourth and finished with the big win.

Four players scored in double digits for the Lions. Tyler Pryce and Prince Kamunga each netted 13 points, while DeAndrae Pierre and Yacine Loe chipped in with 10 each. Kamunga also finished with five rebounds, three assists, one steal and one block.

The Lions are now 2-13 on the season and remain at the bottom of the Central Division standings, while the Lakers improved to 4-11 but remain fifth in the OUA East.

The Lions will attempt to get back into the win column on Saturday when they welcome the Laurentian Voyaguers to the Tait McKenzie Centre. Tip-off is set for 8pm.
