The York University Lions men's basketball team dropped a 94-81 decision to the Brock Badgers in St. Catharines, Ont., on Wednesday night.
The Lions gained an early lead over the Badgers with a jump shot from
Yacine Loe followed by a three-pointer and a free throw from
Prince Kamunga. Still, the Badgers quickly regained their lead and extended it with a jump shot from Mitch Saunders, followed by another jump shot from Daniel Cayer. A three from Saunders closed out the first quarter with 27-17 over the Lions.
In the second quarter, the Badgers once again extended their lead with a jump shot from Godsman Kwakwah. Kamunga scored a three-pointer to cut the lead to 10 points, but the Badgers were too far ahead for the Lions to catch up, and they led the Lions 49- 32 by the half.
In the third and fourth quarters, the Lions' game turned around as they began to outscore the Badgers 24-22 points in the third and 25-23 in the fourth. Despite outscoring the Badgers, the Lions were too far behind to catch up to tie the game and were handed the defeat.
Kamunga led all Lions with 25 and eight rebounds.
Tyler Pryce scored the second highest with 14 points, followed by
Alex Thielen and
Somto Dimanochie with seven points each.
The Lions play their next game in Hamilton this Saturday against the McMaster Marauders at 3pm.
