The York University Lions men's and women's track and field teams competed at the U of T Hal Brown and Guelph last chance meets and finished with a tremendous 25 medals.
Keysean Powell had a fantastic weekend, finishing with three gold medals and one bronze. Powell also hit the auto-qualification standard for U SPORTS in the 60m dash with a season's best time of 6.79, which gave him the gold medal at U of T. He also got the gold medal and hit the auto-qualification standards for U SPORTS in the long jump at Guelph with a personal best jump of 7.37m, which ranks him first in the nation.
Jumper
Leah Jones also had a phenomenal weekend, finishing with three medals of her own, also hitting the U SPORTS standard. Jones jumped an indoor personal best in the long jump at Guelph soaring a stellar 6.03m into the pit while also taking the gold medal. The night before Jones took two silver medals at U of T in both the long and triple jump, which was also a season's best for her.
Jumper
Olivia Henry also finished the weekend with two medals with the gold medal in the triple jump and a bronze medal in the long jump at U of T and triple jumper
Akshanna Sivanathan had a breakout season, hitting the OUA standard with a season's best jump of 11.02m.
Michael Miglietta finished with a silver medal in the long jump at U of T with a jump of 6.87m and jumped a personal best the following day at Guelph with a jump of 6.94m. Also in the pit,
Placide Ilunga took the silver with a season's best jump and first-year
Jed Makutsa took the bronze with a personal best jump of 13.02m, while Powell finished with the gold.
Jonathan Raspanti took the gold in the men's weight throw with a personal best of 16.34m and
Drew Erkskine finished with the silver with a 15.45m throw.
Holly Taylor took the silver in the women's weight throw with a 16.21m distance at Guelph while teammate
Thyra Mbiro finished with the bronze and a personal best at U of T.
Long distance runner
Mariam Ksaibati finished third in the 600m at Guelph and
Abdiaziz Ali came first in the same event and also came first the night before in the 1000m.
On the sprints side, 60m specialist
Monique Simon-Tucker finished with the silver at U of T and teammate
Diana Boa finished right behind her with the bronze, while
Natasha Russell finished with the gold at Guelph in the 60m hurdles.
The 4x200m relay team composed of
Simone Da Silva, Boa,
Kimora Harris and
Alanah Broomfield finished with the gold medal while the men's 4x200m relay composed of
Thoma Ban Bergen,
Mark Hutchinson,
Jaxon Hume and
Ugatua Ebikeme finished with the silver.
The team finished with 42 OUA standards, 24 season's bests, 21 personal bests and three U SPORTS standards.
The Lions will be looking to finish on the podium this weekend as they host the OUA championships at the Toronto Track and Field Centre on Friday and Saturday.
