York University Athletics & Recreation announced on Monday the 19 student-athletes who were selected as the most valuable players from their respective varsity teams for the 2019-20 season.

Football: Jacob Janke, Football
Janke had a tremendous season for the Lions and capped it by being named a U SPORTS second-team all-Canadian, York's first football player to receive the honour since 2004. The free safety was also an OUA first-team all-star, one of only two unanimous selections among all 24 conference all-stars, after stuffing the stats sheet in multiple categories, including tying for third in the OUA with three interceptions.

Field Hockey: Frankie St. Louis, Defence
St. Louis started all 12 games on the back end and was the leader of a unit that allowed only 11 goals in 12 contests, tied for the second-lowest mark in the OUA. She also added four goals throughout the season and earned U SPORTS all-Canadian and OUA all-star honours for the first time in her career.

Men's Soccer: Francesco Sinopoli, Defence
Sinopoli was named a U SPORTS first-team all-Canadian and an OUA West first-team all-star this season. The fifth-year centre back anchored a defensive unit that allowed only five goals in 14 games, the best mark in the conference.

Women's Soccer: Teni Odetoyinbo, Defence
Odetoyinbo was the best player on the OUA's best team, earning the West Division most valuable player award. She started all 14 games at centre back and was the anchor of the strong defensive unit and earned U SPORTS first-team all-Canadian and OUA West first-team all-star honours.

Rugby: Michela Stratton, Back Row
Stratton led the Lions in tries and was tied for 14th in the OUA with five scored in four games in the regular season, accounting for 25 points. She added one in each of the team's first two playoff games and was named an OUA Russell Division all-star for the first time.

Cross Country: Carmen Krawczynski Gonzalez
Krawczynski Gonzalez was the Lions' best cross country runner in her rookie campaign. She was the first York athlete to cross the finish line at every meet this season, including a ninth-place result in Waterloo that was York's first top 10 since 2012. She finished 39th at the OUA championships, York's first top 40 since 2010, and was 13th among all rookies at the U SPORTS race.

Men's Basketball: Prince Kamunga, Guard
Kamunga was the best player on offence and defence for the Lions this season. He ranked in the top 12 in the OUA in both points and rebounds, finishing 12th in conference scoring and sixth in rebounds. He was also fifth in the OUA in blocks and led the team in all three categories.

Women's Basketball: Lauren Golding, Forward
Golding was dominant on the court for the Lions, finishing as one of only two players in the OUA to average a double-double this season. The forward was second in the OUA in rebounds per game and 11th in scoring and earned second-team all-star honours for her efforts. She was also the U SPORTS female athlete of the month for January.

Men's Hockey: Scott Feser, Forward
Feser, the team captain and MVP for the second straight year, led the Lions in scoring with 24 points. He played in every game and was also the team's leader in assists, finishing 26th overall in OUA scoring.
