The York University Lions women's soccer team have officially clinched a playoff berth, and now look towards the final weekend of the season controlling their own destiny.
The Lions open up the weekend on Friday, Oct. 21 in St. Catharine's, Ont. against the Brock Badgers. Brock is tied for fourth in the West with the McMaster Marauders. The Badgers come in on a three-match unbeaten streak, earning a win against Laurier before drawing each game of a home-and-home with Guelph.
Then, on Sunday, the Lions will host the Western Mustangs in the annual grad game at
ALUMNI FIELD. After opening the season on a six-game unbeaten streak, the Mustangs come into to Sunday's finale 3-2 in their last five games
A win and a draw this weekend guarantee the Lions will finish second place in the OUA West. Guelph, with whom they are currently tied for second, has only one game remaining. A Guelph loss to Windsor on Friday means all the Lions need is one point in their final two games to clinch second. Were the teams to remain tied, Guelph would have the tiebreaker by virtue of their win over the Lions on Sept. 25. The Lions also have a shot at first place in the West should they win both games, as Western only has the game against York remaining.
Should York get either of the top two seeds, they would receive a bye to the OUA quarter-finals, which are to be played on Oct. 29. Were they to fall to third, they would host a game in Round 1 of the playoffs on Oct. 26 at
ALUMNI FIELD.

Lions to Watch:
#6 NIA FLEMING-THOMPSON: 1st-year forward… Has been the centrepiece of the Lions offensive attack this season…leads the time in goals (7), and is second to
Jotam Chouhan in shots (33) and shots on target (19)... Despite her being a freshman, it would seem, come playoff time, the Lions will go as far as she takes them.
#10 KALIFORNIA MITCHELL: 3rd-year midfielder… Has shown an ability to create chances, ranking 5th on the team in shots on goal… Despite this, she's scored only twice this season, and only once in her last six matches… She's due for her luck to begin to change, and perhaps she'll peak at just the time for the Lions.
