Both the Toronto Varsity Blues and the Western Mustangs will be front and centre all day on championship Sunday at Mayfair Club East, after the men's and women's teams for both programs took wins in their respective semi-finals.
The women's final is set for a 1:30 pm start, with the men's final between the same two teams taking place at 3 pm.
On the men's side, Toronto got to the championship via a win over the host York Lions, but the win didn't come without some adversity along the way. The Lions took two of the seven available points after earning two of three wins in doubles matches, and getting one singles win. However, the Blues dominated the singles matches, taking all but one victory to seal a 5-2 win over York.
Western defeated the Waterloo Warriors to earn their championship berth, with a 6-1 victory. The most decisive wins came from Aidan Zia, who earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in his singles match, while Ray Xie took a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
The Blues women had a smooth ride to the championship, where they beat out the McMaster Maraudeers 7-0 en route to Sunday's contest. Western faced Waterloo and also came away with a 7-0 victory – four of the six singles matches were 6-0, 6-0 sweeps for the Mustangs as they head into the final to clash with top-seeded Toronto.
