Box Score Despite a spirited finish which included a penalty, a hit crossbar, and multiple shots on goal, Paige Allaby's 59
th minute goal held up as the game winner for the Cape Breton Capers in the U SPORTS quarter-final. They ended the national title hopes of the York University Lions women's soccer team on the strength of that early second-half goal.
Â
The loss is York's second straight road loss, with the first coming in the OUA gold medal game against the Ottawa Gee-Gees. York now has lost both of their games against the Capers in their program history, with the first loss coming in the national gold medal game back in November of 2007.
Â
However, the Lions will now move to the consolation side of the bracket and play for positioning for the remainder of the tournament. They will play the loser of the UBC vs. Laval quarterfinal in the consolation semifinal, Friday, Nov. 11 at 1:30 pm.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Lions began the game on the defensive, with the Capers applying high levels of pressure and forcing Ava Jones to make several big saves in the process. But the Lions got out of the first half unscathed, preserving a 0-0 draw.
- York earned their best chance of the half on a chance off a Giuliana Paolella corner, where Bianca Jack sailed a shot high over the Capers goal.
- The second half saw Allaby add her impressive marker, as she juggled the ball down the left wing, lost a Lions defender and fired a shot near the post and past Jones to give Cape Breton the goal.
- York then began a furious offensive push, which included Nia Fleming-Thompson nearly tying the game in the 68th minute when she rocketed a strike off the bar.
- But York's best chance came off a Cape Breton foul in the box, and Jotam Chouhan stepped up to the spot to take the penalty. She was ultimately stopped, as the Capers keeper dove to her right and came up with the save in the biggest moment of the game.Â
LOOKING AHEAD
Â
The Lions could either find themselves in a game against the hometown Laval Rouge et Or, or the No. 1 nationally ranked UBC Thunderbirds, pending on their Thursday night quarter-final result. Either way, there will be a significant hurdle to overcome.
