It was a difficult beginning to the season for the York University Lions women's basketball team. It featured a pair of losses in Ottawa to the Carleton Ravens and Ottawa Gee-Gees. Now, still without a win, the club is looking to gain some traction.                        Â
That effort will be helped by returning home Saturday night to face the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks. They are coming off a split of a pair of games last week – a win over Nipissing and a tough three-point loss to Laurentian.Â
First, however, they finish their season-opening road swing down the QEW in Hamilton against the McMaster Marauders on Friday. McMaster, ironically enough, also played a couple games in the nationals capital against Ottawa-based opponents, and also lost them both.

Lions to Watch:
#13 KIARA LEVERIDGE: Second-year guard… Led the Lions in scoring in the season-opening loss to Carleton with 19… Had a quieter outing in the second leg of the Ottawa trip, scoring just 10 points against Carleton… Is someone head coach Christa Eniojukan believes will take another big step forward for the Lions after winning rookie of the year in 2021-22.
#21 LAUREN GOLDING: Fifth-year forward… Led the Lions in scoring against Ottawa, also with 19 points… Has been the heart and soul of Lions women's basketball over her tenure… Was the team MVP last season and has been named an OUA second-team all-star in each of the last two campaigns.
