ENIOJUKAN TO SERVE AS ASSISTANT COACH OF WOMEN’S NATIONAL TEAM FOR FIBA U18 AMERICUP

York University Lions women's basketball head coach Christa Eniojukan has made a career out of imparting her breadth of basketball knowledge on the next generation of Canadian women's talent.

The Lions head coach, who assumed her role prior to the 2021-22 season after playing two seasons as a player at York from 2003-05 and winning the team MVP award in her final year, was recently named an assistant coach for the upcoming U18 FIBA Women's AmeriCup.

She says the chance to share her expertise with the next generation isn't one she takes for granted.

"This opportunity to work closely with talented young athletes who are striving to represent their country at an international level is truly humbling and rewarding," said Eniojukan, who serves as co-chair of the OUA's BIPOC Committee."

Eniojukan has occupied several coaching capacities with Canada Basketball since 2010, most recently as the head coach of Canada's U23 GLOBL Jam team last July. The Ajax, Ont. native was a performance analyst at the 2022 U17 FIBA Women's World Cup.

Eniojukan, who, as one of four BIPOC female basketball coaches in U SPORTS, spearheaded the Athlete Empowered Classic which York hosted in 2023, has enjoyed a great deal of success coaching nationally. She has won six national medals (four gold and two silver) as a coach, and served as the head coach of the U17 Ontario provincial team from 2014-17.

She plans to use this latest international invitation as another measure of growth as she embarks on her fourth season at the helm of the Lions come the fall.

"From this experience, I am certain to gain valuable insights and lessons that will grow me as a coach," said the Lions head coach, who won the Coaches Association of Ontario's Susan Kitchen Trailblazer Award in 2019.

The 2024 FIBA U18 Women's AmeriCup will be held June 17-23 in Bucaramanga, Columbia.
