The York University Lions men's basketball team was looking to finish its season-opening three-game road trip off on a positive note.
After a pair of losses to Carleton and Ottawa last weekend, the Lions headed to Hamilton to meet the McMaster Marauders. McMaster also entered the game without a win – also thanks to a couple defeats at the hands of the Gee-Gees and Ravens last weekend.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions got off to a solid start in this one, leading 22-15 after one. They were paced by Prince Kamunga, who had half of the Lions points in the opening quarter.
- The second quarter was a different story. The Lions, who went 8-18Â shooting in the first, were held to just nine second-quarter points, on just 4-21 from the field. They went over four minutes without scoring in the middle of the quarter. McMaster led by four at the break
- The Marauders continued to stretch their lead in the third, as they shot 7-17 from the field and 8-10 from the free throw line in the frame.
- The Lions rediscovered some of their rhythm in the third, putting up 16 points, but the home side enjoyed an 11 point lead after three.
- This one really got away from the Lions in the fourth. They allowed McMaster to score 31 points on 12-21 shooting, including 3-9 from three-point range.
- The big fourth from McMaster sealed an 89-61 victory, and earned them their first win of the year while handing the Lions their third consecutive loss.
LOOKING AHEAD:
