LIONS DROP SECOND STRAIGHT IN OTTAWA, FALL TO GEE-GEES

The York University Lions fell to the Ottawa Gee-Gees by a score of 88-65 on Saturday night in the nation's capital.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The first quarter of the contest was a close one with Tyler Pryce scoring the first basket of the game on a drive to the hoop lay up. The Gee-Gees matched the Lions stride for stride with both teams getting the better of each other on several occasions. The quarter closed with the home side up by three.
  • The second quarter saw the Gee-Gees extend their lead to 16 thanks to a lockdown defence, which allowed just 13 points. They were also crisp offensively, putting up 26 on the Lions in the frame.
  • This would remain the case in the third quarter with Prince Kamunga being the only York player to score and the Lions defence being unable to cope with the quick ball movement of Ottawa and their high court pressure.
  • The Gee-Gees continued to score the basketball effectively, and led by 24 heading to the fourth frame.
  • Both teams got their bench some minutes in the fourth as the Gee-Gees won it 88-65 over the Lions.

NOTABLE NUMBERS:

  • Prince Kamunga was the game's top scorer with 25 points as well as four rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
  • He was followed by Tyler Pryce for the Lions who scored 16 and had four rebounds and two assists.

LOOKING AHEAD:

The Lions will look to get their first win of the new season when they face the McMaster Marauders Next Friday at 8:00 pm  at Burridge Gym in Hamilton.
