Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

LIONS ROAR BACK IN FOURTH QUARTER TO WIN THRILLER OVER TORONTO

Chevon Brown's 17-point fourth quarter sparked a stunning late comeback for the York University Lions men's basketball team, who secured a vital 84-82 road victory at the Goldring Centre in downtown Toronto, Ont.

The win keeps the Lions in contention for the final OUA playoff berth while also improving their record to 5-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blues got out to a solid start, going on a 10-0 run to force an early Lions timeout in the first quarter. The Blues led for the duration of the first and second quarters, looking comfortable with their ball movement on home court.
  • Later in the second quarter, the Lions found their footing and went on a 7-0 run to put themselves within a point at 31-30. However, the Blues were quick to respond with another 10-0 run and went into halftime with a 45-36 edge over York.
  • The last two quarters followed a similar pattern to the first two, with the Blues maintaining their lead against the Lions. The Lions ultimately solved the Toronto defence to trim the deficit to single digits, eventually tying the game at 77-77 when they went on a 9-0 run led by Brown, who scored 17 of the Lions' 24 points in the fourth quarter.
  • The Lions continued to extend their lead, but Blues guard Inaki Alvarez drills a game-tying three-pointer in the final 31 seconds of the fourth quarter to level the game at 82. However, a late foul on Prince Kamunga would lead to go-ahead baskets, and York held on for the 84-82 win.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • The Lions were once again led by a stellar performance by Kamunga, who had another high-scoring night with 32 points, seven rebounds and five steals just coming off a 45-point performance on Mar. 5.
  • Not far behind was Brown with 26 points and three baskets from beyond the arc.
  • Somto Dimanochie registered a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds.
LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions look to head home to host the Toronto Varsity Blues for their final regular-season game of the 2021-22 campaign on Mar. 12. The Lions look for a season-defying win to clinch the last playoff seed in the OUA East Division. The tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm.
