HERRINGTON AND CANADA TAKE HOME PARA ICE HOCKEY SILVER

Team Canada Para Ice Hockey, with York University Lions men's hockey coach Russ Herrington behind the bench, took home a silver medal from the 2022 Winter Paralympic Games in Beijing, China, after the United States took home gold with a 5-0 win over Canada in the gold medal game.

The result mirrors that of the 2021 World Para Ice Hockey Championship – the last time these two teams played in a final – where Canada fell to the USA 5-1.

Herrington served as the team's assistant coach.

Canada previously played two round robin games against the United States and South Korea respectively. They began the tournament with a 5-0 loss to the U.S. and followed it up with a 6-0 win over South Korea.

In the semifinal, Herrington helped coach Canada to the gold medal game with an 11-0 win over the same South Korea team, setting up a rematch of the 2018 Paralympic Games.

Herrington's Lions return to the ice this Wednesday for the start of their OUA East playoff run at No. 1 seed Windsor, where they play a one-game quarterfinal at the South Windsor Arena.
