Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

KAMUNGA DROPS 45, LIONS ERASE 23-POINT DEFICIT TO SHOCK QUEEN’S 114-110

Prince Kamunga recorded the second-most single-game points in York University Lions men's basketball team history, including 21 in the third quarter alone, as the Lions mounted a second-half comeback to hand Queen's just their third loss of 2021-22.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Gaels led by 23 points at half time, and 12 points heading into the fourth quarter, but the Lions completed the comeback to take the four-point win.
  • The fourth quarter began with a 7-0 run for York to put them down by five, and the teams traded points from there.
  • What followed was another run, this time lasting for 14 Lions points. Somto Dimanochie tied the game with his free throw, then Brendon Chevannes drilled a jumper 18 seconds later to expand York's lead to three – and it wouldn't get any smaller than that until the game ended.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
  • Kamunga's 45 points is only behind Lions alumni David Coulthard's single-game point total of 50. He recorded it against Toronto on Dec. 9, 1982.
  • Saturday's game was the highest offensive output for York this season.
  • Both Kamunga and Dimanochie registered double doubles for the Lions, with Kamunga picking up 10 rebounds and Dimanochie checking in with 15 points and 12 boards.
LOOKING AHEAD

The Lions will finish their season with a home-and-home against the Toronto Varsity Blues, beginning with a game at the Blues on Mar. 11 before wrapping up their 2021-22 campaign at home on Mar. 12.
