GOLDEN HAWKS DOWN LIONS ON SCHOOL DAY GAME

The Laurier Golden Hawks' 28-point third quarter put them well on their way to a 95-69 win over the York University Lions men's basketball team Friday afternoon at Tait McKenzie Centre. 
 
The game saw 550+ school children attend for the matinee, in which the visitors from Waterloo, Ont. went an impressive 46 per cent from beyond the arc to secure the victory.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The first quarter ended 21-14 in favor of Laurier. Prince Kamunga led the way offensively for the Lions with eight points.
  • York stepped it up to score four in the opening minute of the second quarter as they began to generate more offence to keep pace with Laurier. Travon Hamilton scored five points to cut the Hawks' lead down to three.
  • However, the third quarter proved to be the difference maker. Laurier took an 18-point lead with and never looked back, sealing the deal by out-scoring the Lions by 15 in that quarter.
  • Somto Dimanochie led his team in scoring with 21 points as well as leading the team in rebounds with 12.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
 
The Lions will hope to get back on track when they go away tomorrow at 8 pm to face the Brock Badgers at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
