The York University women's soccer team looks to battle it out against the Brock Badgers in their final two regular season contests this weekend. The Lions, who currently sit in 7th place in the OUA West division, are one point shy of the Brock Badgers in 6th place, and claiming the final playoff spot. With an important weekend ahead of them, along with Sunday's grad game, York is in search for a win after a hard earned 2-2 draw against the Guelph Gryphons.
Under Friday night lights, the Lions were determined to protect their home grounds against the Gryphons. The game had high intensity from the start, but neither team was able to break through until
Erica Di Matteo found the back of the net for the Lions in the 17th minute, netting her first goal of the season, and a crucial one at that. Guelph evened the scoreline heading into the halfway break, and the teams would return for the second, hungry for the next goal. The second-half was similar to the first, when again, Di Matteo advanced the scoreline in favour of the lines 2-1 in the 77th minute. With not a lot of time left to play, the Gryphons found a defensive break and equalized int he 84th minute, finishing the game in a 2-2 draw.
