The York University Lions women's basketball team is home at Tait McKenzie Centre for their final two games of the fall term against the Ottawa Gee-Gees and Carleton Ravens. After securing their first victory of the season against the Toronto Varsity Blues on Nov. 24 by one point, the Lions split the weekend dropping their road game against the Blues on Saturday.
On Friday morning, the Lions hosted their school day game, playing in front of a packed house, York played strong basketball. After trailing the first quarter 18-10, the Lions found their game taking hold of the second quarter, leading the first half 36-35. York was stumped coming back into the third quarter only securing three points, before returning bigger in the final quarter to edge out the Blues in the final minutes, and secure their first victory of the year, 61-60.
A Saturday game away against the Blues in a home-and-home series saw the Blues take the second game in a one possession game. The game followed similar story lines to Friday as Toronto won the first quarter, but the Lions countered back in the second quarter to lead the first half 43-41. In a tight second half of the game, the Blues gained control to finish the game winning 82-80, and splitting the weekend.
