In a crowded field of experienced competitors, second-year pole vaulter
Ella Foster came away with a sixth place finish overall in the women's pole vault final in a breakout performance on Day 2 of the U SPORTS championships in Saskatoon, Sask.

Foster ended the day one height below a medal. Her highest successful attempt came at 3.83m, before fouling out at 3.88m while three members of the Guelph Gryphons were successful, giving the Gryphons a sweep of the podium.

Foster tied three other pole vaulters at 3.83, but had the third-highest number of attempts which placed her sixth.

Her finish was the highest of anyone in first- or second-year, and narrowly missed her personal best of 3.90m.

Her teammate in the field,
Olivia Henry, also competed for the first time in the meet, placing 12
th in the women's long jump final with a jump of 4.70m. She earned considerably more distance on her third jump, but was assessed a foul which kept 4.70m as her registered final score.

Henry is also eligible to compete in the women's triple jump final on Day 3 of the event Saturday afternoon.
