York University Lions women's track and field athlete
Ella Foster has been named York female athlete of the week for the period ending Mar. 12.
Â
At the FFUN Motorgroup U SPORTS track and field championships in Saskatoon, Sask., the second-year pole vaulter from New Westminster, B.C. had an impressive run through the national meet, posting a 3.82m vault in the women's pole vault final, just shy of a personal best she hit earlier this year.
Â
Foster ended the day one height below a medal. Her highest successful attempt came at 3.83m, before fouling out at 3.88m while three members of the Guelph Gryphons were successful, giving the Gryphons a sweep of the podium.
Â
Foster tied three other pole vaulters at 3.83, but had the third-highest number of attempts which placed her sixth.
Â
The kinesiology and health science major has been turning heads in the York pole vault community, after hitting a personal-best of 3.90m, the second-highest successful attempt by a Lion in York program history since record-keeping began in 1974.
Â
She will have three more full years of eligibility to exceed that mark, which has already brought her into the U SPORTS medal conversation.
