York University Lions men's soccer player Christian Zeppieri and field hockey players Lexi Hannah & Elyse Ives were named York athletes of the week for the period ending Sept. 17.

Zeppieri, a first-year accounting student, scored both goals for the Lions in their 2-0 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds on Saturday. His three goals on the season place him tied for second on the team in that category, behind only fellow first-year Lion and reigning male athlete of the week Tyler Attardo. 

The Maple, Ont. native and the rest of the Lions return home to begin a home-and-home series with the Western Mustangs on Friday night from York Lions Stadium at 8:15 pm.

Hannah, a fourth-year psychology major, scored the first goal of the season for the defending-OUA-champion Lions in the fourth minute of their 2-1 season-opening win over the Western Mustangs. The Kingston, Ont. native then potted her second goal in as many games late in the third quarter of Sunday's 4-0 victory over the McMaster Marauders.

Ives, a second-year kinesiology and health science student, also scored in both games of the Lions opening weekend of play. She scored what amounted to the winning goal on Saturday against Western midway through the second quarter. Then, on Sunday, the native of Bancroft, Ont. doubled the Lions lead to 2-0 with a third-quarter goal against McMaster.

Hannah, Ives and the rest of the Lions next see action Saturday, Sept. 23 when they travel to Guelph to take on the Guelph Gryphons at 11:00 am.
