FORD, REDELAAR NAMED Z-TECA MEXICAN EATERY YORK ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR PERIOD ENDING OCT. 6

York University Lions football player Avery Ford and field hockey player Juliet Redelaar have been named York athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 6

Ford, a first-year receiver from Chantilly, Va., had the best game of his short OUA career in the Lions Week 7 victory over the Waterloo Warriors. The human rights & equity studies major hauled in eight catches for 123 yards and two touchdowns. The highlight was a 46-yard connection from Shawn Lal on the last play of the first half, which helped spur a huge second-half comeback in the 39-24 win.

Ford and the Lions now get set to welcome in the Guelph Gryphons on Friday night for the penultimate game of the regular season on senior night at York Lions Stadium.

Redelaar, a second-year forward from Whitby, Ont., scored four goals on Sunday in the Lions dominant doubleheader win over the McGill Martlets. Scoring two goals in each game, Redelaar put York up 2-0 in Game 1 in the 17th minute, before making it 5-0 early in the second. The biology major then opened and closed the scoring in the Lions 11-0 win in Game 2.

Redelaar and the Lions now get set for a crucial home-and-home with the Toronto Varsity Blues this week, beginning Wednesday night at Toronto.
