York University Lions men's soccer player Christian Zeppieri and women's wrestler Prabhleen Randhawa have been named the latest York athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 10.
Zeppieri, a second-year accounting major, helped guide the Lions to their first national medal in nine years this past weekend at the U SPORTS championships. The striker scored the insurance goal in both York's wins at the championships, including the winner in Thursday's quarter-final win over the St. FX X-Men. He put the Lions up a pair in the 65th minute of Sunday's bronze medal match in what was a 3-1 Lions win.
This caps off a great year for Zeppieri, who was named the OUA West MVP for a second straight year, the U SPORTS Player of the Year to go along with OUA first team all-star, U SPORTS first-team all-Canadian and U SPORTS championship all-star nods.
Randhawa, a second-year kinesiology & health science major, captured a silver medal in the women's 65 kg category at the Pat Bolger Open, hosted by the TMU Bold on Sunday. Randhawa wins her first OUA medal after a previous best finish of fourth at last year's York Open.
Randhawa and the Lions now prepare for their one and only home meet this season, as they will host this year's York Open on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Tait McKenzie Centre, where they will honour their two graduating athletes on senior day.
