York University Lions field hockey player Katie Tye and men's soccer goalkeeper Michael Williams have been named the latest York athletes of the week for the period ending Oct. 5. 

Tye, a defender from Inverary, Ont., a township outside Kingston, showed her offensive prowess this past weekend in a pair of shutout victories over the McGill Martlets. The physics and astronomy student scored twice in Saturday's 7-0 beatdown of McGill, before adding another marker in the third quarter of Sunday's 4-0 win. The second-year player now has four tallies to her name thus far this season, one away from matching her total from her her rookie campaign. 

Tye will enjoy a homecoming of sorts on Saturday as she and the Lions will head to Kingston to battle the Queen's Gaels at 1:00 pm, before hosting them Sunday at Alumni Field at 2:00 pm. Admission for Sunday's game is free.

Williams, a first-year keeper from Kingston, Ont., who spent the 2024 season at Utah Tech University, had a pair of clean sheets over the weekend against the Brock Badgers, helping them clinch their 18th straight division title. The business and society student stopped the only shot he faced from the Badgers in a dominant 3-0 Lions victory on Friday night, before making three saves in Sunday's rematch, keeping Brock off the board in a 1-0 win.

Williams and the Lions will close out the regular season Saturday on senior day against the Algoma Thunderbirds at York Lions Stadium at 3:15 pm in their final tune-up before opening the OUA playoffs on Saturday, Oct. 18. You can get your tickets to Saturday's game here.
