LIONS FALL TO BLUES AT VARSITY ARENA

The York University Lions women's hockey team travelled to Varsity Arena on Saturday night for the first of two meetings in the next eight days against the Toronto Varsity Blues. After falling to the Queen's Gaels last Friday, York entered the game looking to bounce back and secure their seventh win of the season. Toronto, meanwhile, was aiming for their sixth victory as they continued to hold third place in the OUA East.

Toronto set the tone early, controlling possession and outshooting York 14–2 in the first period. The Blues opened the scoring at 4:36 with an early goal from Ashley Delahey, assisted by Emma Elders and Taylor Delahey. Toronto doubled their lead at 15:08, when Christina Alexiou buried a setup from Jasmine Comeau and Abby Whitworth, sending York into the intermission down 2-0.

The visitors responded quickly in the middle frame when Natasha Lange scored her first of the season at 6:35, cutting the deficit to 2-1. Toronto answered at 9:30 on the power play, with Whitworth converting feeds from Taylor and Ashley Delahey to restore a two-goal lead.

The Blues pulled away in the final 20 minutes. Jasmine Comeau connected early at 3:27 from Alexiou and Madison Tiro, followed by a shorthanded strike at 8:33 from Kaitlyn McKnight, with Elders and Sadie Watkins-Southward drawing the helpers. Alexiou added her second of the night with two minutes left, sealing Toronto's 6–1 win.
