York University Lions field hockey player Kathryn Carlow was named the program's lone U SPORTS all-Canadian at the national awards banquet ahead of the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Invitational Championships last week in Charlottetown, P.E.I.
Carlow, a third-year midfielder from Douro-Dummer, Ont., wins the award after enjoying a breakout season in 2025. The kinesiology and health science student led the OUA in goals with nine, easily surpassing her previous best of five, set last season. She was instrumental in York's offence this season, accounting for more than 25% of the team's goals, and scoring more than one goal three times. That included a hat trick in the Lions convincing 5-0 win over the Queen's Gaels on Oct. 12.
In the OUA gold medal game against the Toronto Varsity Blues, Carlow added an insurance marker a mere 31 seconds after the Blues had trimmed the Lions lead to 2-1 with just under seven minutes to play, helping secure York's first OUA title since 2022.
2025 marks the fourth straight year a Lion has been named a U SPORTS all-Canadian joining current assistant coach Frankie St. Louis (2022), Natalie Winter (2023) and Abby Thompson (2024). She is also the 36th different Lion all-time to be named an all-Canadian dating back to the 1979, the program's third year of existence.
