York University Lions field hockey player Juliet Redelaar has been named one of four OUA athletes of the week for the period ending Nov. 2.
Redelaar, a third-year neuroscience student from Whitby, Ont., was the tour guide on the path to history for the Lions field hockey program, helping lead them to their first ever national championship. First, she scored two goals in York's 5-0 win over Dalhousie on Saturday that punched their ticket to the Field Hockey Canada U SPORTS Invitational Championship gold medal match for a second straight year.
Then, in the decisive final, the 2023 OUA rookie of the year scored the winning goal in the 58th minute – the game's lone tally – to beat the Victoria Vikes 1-0, exacting revenge from the 2024 final at Alumni Field which the Vikes won by the same score. Redelaar's – and the win that resulted – ended Victoria's streak of six straight national titles dating back to 2018.
Redelaar becomes the third Lion to have the OUA athlete of the week honour bestowed upon them in 2025-26, joining men's soccer players Marco Sciortino (Sept. 14) and Yigal Bruk (Oct. 19).
