The York University Lions women's basketball team is set to host two games at home this weekend at the Tait McKenzie Centre. Starting Friday evening at 6:00 pm, the Lions host the Carleton Ravens for their first meeting of the season. York is seeking redemption on their home court after suffering a tough 88-41 road loss to the Ravens last season.
Beyond the action on the court, Friday's matchup serves a greater purpose as a featured event in the 2025-26 U SPORTS Shoot for the Cure campaign. Running from January 21 to February 1, this 19th edition of the initiative aims to raise $100,000 for the Canadian Cancer Society. Since its inception in 2007, in collaboration with the U SPORTS Women's Basketball Coaches' Association, Shoot for the Cure has raised over $2 million to help fight breast cancer. Fans can contribute to this year's goal by donating online through the York Lions team page.
The action continues Saturday at 6:00 pm when the Lions return to the floor to take on the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Much like Friday's matchup, York will be looking to reverse last season's result after an 85-44 defeat in Ottawa.
