The York Lions officially have their best start to the season in program history after last weekend. The Lions secured a 3-0 win over the Laurier Golden Hawks to start 8-0 for the first time in program history. The Lions will look to keep the momentum going as they're scheduled for two games this weekend and the chance to start 10-0.

With the 3-0 victory over the Golden Hawks, the Lions also started another streak with back-to-back clean sheets after defeating Algoma 5-0 in their previous game. It is the Lions fourth clean sheet of the season in eight games total.

York is coming into Friday's match facing a struggling Guelph Gryphons squad. The Gryphons started the season very well, going 3-0-1 in their first four games. Since then, the Gryphons have lost three straight, falling to 3-3-1 with the defending National Champions the York Lions up next on the schedule.

The Lions Gryphons matchup also features two of the premier players in OUA Men's Soccer. York's Christian Zeppieri and Guelph's Ambrose Tinmouth are at the top of the OUA leader board. Zeppieri currently leads the OUA in points with 15 total, while Tinmouth trails behind Zeppieri in second place with 11 total points. Both players will have to make their mark known on this game if their teams want to walk out of this matchup with a win.

McMaster will look to avenge their early season loss to York in what was not a very competitive contest. The Lions handedly took care of the Marauders in early September with a 4-0 victory. However, the Marauders have found their stride as of recently as they're carrying a three-game winning streak into this weekend.

Both matchups should feature some sustained offensive pressure, as York, Guelph, and McMaster all average double-digit shots per game. York averages 17 while Guelph averages 12.1 and McMaster averages 11.9. York is still averaging the most goals in the OUA by far with 4.13 and would expect to score multiple this weekend as both Guelph (1.86) and McMaster (1.55) are conceding more than one goal per game on average.

The Lions journey to 10-0 continues Friday October 2nd at York Lions Stadium for an 8:15 PM EST kick-off. Tickets for that game are available at yorkulions.ca/tickets. The Lions will then travel to Hamilton on Sunday, October 4th for a 6:15 PM EST kick-off. Both games wil be available to stream on oua.tv.
