The York Lions Football team will be looking to end their losing skid this weekend when they travel down to Windsor to face the Lancers on Saturday night. After winning their first game of the season, the Lions have struggled over their last three and have yet to find a win since.Â
Windsor has started to find their stride recently, winning their last two games over Waterloo and the University of Toronto to carry a two-game winning streak into Saturday's contest. Quarterback Kareame Cotton has been a driving force in Windsor's success as he currently leads the OUA in passing touchdowns by a significant amount with 18 total. Â
The Lions will hope to build off a strong effort in their last game against the Golden Hawks. Going into a hostile environment at Laurier's Homecoming, the Lions battled with the Golden Hawks all day, finding themselves within a touchdown going into the fourth in a 13-19 game. The Lions would unfortunately run out of gas in the fourth as they would end up falling to the Golden Hawks.Â
Caelan Gray-Stapleton was a dominant force for the Lions and kept them afloat during last week's game. Gray-Stapleton rushed for 117 yards on 20 attempts, good for 5.85 yards per carry. Gray Stapleton's effort was enough to earn him one of York's Athlete of the Week honours for the week of September 27th.Â
Last week York also found themselves severely short-handed with starting Quarterback Maurice Sodja, leading receiver Jayden Shallow, and veteran Zack Smith. Those three names are crucial to the York offensive attack and could have made last week's game against Laurier a completely different one had they played. To get these three potentially back on the field again this week would be a huge boost for the Lions and would help them keep pace with the high-powered Lancers attack.Â
The game is scheduled for Saturday, October 3rd at Windsor's Alumni Stadium. Kick-off is set for 7 PM EST and the game will be available to stream on OUA.tv.Â
