LIONS FALL TO BLUES, WILL PLAY FOR OUA BRONZE

The York University Lions field hockey team was defeated by a 5-0 score by the Toronto Varsity Blues in their OUA semifinal match on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 25) at the Cassie Campbell Community Centre.

The Blues, who went undefeated in the regular season, will now play for the OUA gold medal on Sunday, while the Lions will battle for bronze.

The Varsity Blues put the game away early with three goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. They got on the board in the third minute when second-year forward Anna McNeil (Sutton, Ont.) scored to make it 1-0 Toronto. Alison Lee (Mississauga, Ont.) would extend Toronto's lead to 2-0 off a stroke just two minutes later. McNeill and Lee would each add another as the Blues built themselves a commanding 4-0 before the end of the half.

Late in the game, Gabriella Permell would get in on the scoring off a penalty corner and sealed the victory for the Blues.

The Lions will face the Queen's Gaels at 10am for the bronze medal, followed by the Blues against the defending OUA champion Guelph Gryphons in the championship final at 12pm. Both Toronto and Guelph have also qualified for the CIS championships taking place next week at the University of Toronto.
