Last MeetingsThe Lions came back to defeat the Voyageurs 3-2 in overtime in their previous game this season thanks to a natural hat trick by captain
Lisa Stathopulos. Laurentian took a 2-0 lead mid way through the third before Stathopulos scored a pair in the final eight minutes and added the winner in the extra frame. The Voyageurs swept the season series last year, winning 4-2 and 2-1.
Â
The Lakers defeated the Lions 4-3 in a shootout in their earlier meeting this season, erasing a three-goal deficit and earning what could be a crucial second point in the OUA standings. The two teams split the season series last year, with the road team winning each time.
Â
QUICK FACTSÂ
York- The Lions are 2-4-0 since the start of the new year, with wins over Waterloo and UOIT. Four of the losses have come against the top six teams in the conference. Last weekend they lost 3-0 to first-place Western and 4-1 to Windsor.
- With nine wins, the Lions have already surpassed last year's win total of six. They missed the post-season last year but are currently in position to qualify this season with 20 points, tying them for seventh place in the OUA. Every team they are battling in the standings holds a game in hand.
- The Lions have a -7 goal differential with 48 goals scored and 55 allowed.
Â
Laurentian- The Voyageurs have won just two of their last 11 contests, including a 2-1 shootout victory over Nipissing in their most recent outing last weekend. Their other victory was a 3-1 result over last-place Brock in late November.
- The Voyageurs are currently 12th in the OUA standings with 11 points and are still mathematically in contention for a playoff spot, but they will need to win each of their last five games and have the teams ahead of them lose out to secure a berth.
- Laurentian has scored just 30 goals this season, the lowest mark in the OUA, and allowed 60, the second highest total.
- Laurentian head coach Stacey Colarossi was an assistant with the Lions before taking the leading role with the Voyageurs.
Â
Nipissing- The Lakers posted only five victories last year and finished outside the playoff picture, but they can secure a berth this season with a strong finish. They are currently in 10th place with 19 points, but are just one point back of seventh.
- The Lakers had an impressive November with five straight victories to start the month, and a 5-2-0 mark overall, but they have won only once since then, a 4-3 shootout victory over Windsor, and are currently riding a four-game losing streak with shootout losses to Western and Laurentian as well as regulation losses to Laurier and Waterloo.
- The Lakers have a goal differential of -5 this season, having scored 46 goals and allowed 51.
