A pair of York University Lions women's hockey players are among those to win OUA awards in 2025-26, as announced by the conference on Wednesday.
Veteran defender Abby Hicks has been recognized with two West divison major awards: the EDI Award and the Marion Hilliard Award. Named after the pioneering Canadian physician and varsity athlete, the Marion Hilliard Award is granted to a player who excels in hockey, academics, and community service. Hicks' leadership was most visible through her creation of the Lions' inaugural Elimination of Violence Against Women & Girls game. She managed every facet of the event, from coordinating with the York University Centre for Sexual Violence Response Support and Education to organizing donations for a local women's shelter, and hosting an educational podcast with international experts. Outside of the arena, Hicks serves as a Sport Council Executive, coaches the North York Storm U18 AA team, and provides academic tutoring in the sciences.
Joining Hicks with conference honours is goaltender Olivia Tran, who was named to the OUA all-rookie team. In her debut season, Tran took over the net in the second term from an injured Emma Wedgewood in the second term, appearing in 13 games and earning 12 starts. She averaged 26 shots faced per night and 23 saves. Tran becomes the first Lion to make the conference all-rookie team since Sara McLennan did so in 2021-22.
