The roster is comprised of 23 women and 18 men, including 26 who attend Canadian universities and 15 who study at institutions based in the United States. Boateng will compete in the men's 100m and Crew will be in the women's shot put event.
Â
Both student-athletes have been tremendous in their first two seasons with the Lions. Boateng, from Brampton, Ont., has won six individual medals at the CIS championships over the last two years, including four golds in the 60m and 4x200m relay in 2015 and the 4x200m and 4x400m relays in 2014, and helped the Lions win the national banner last year and a bronze medal this season.
Â
He also won a pair of CIS bronze medals in the 300m, has won gold, silver and bronze medals at the OUA championships and has been a first-team CIS all-Canadian and OUA all-star.
Â
Crew, an East York, Ont., native, was dominant in the throwing events this past season. She swept the shot put and weight throw at both the OUA and CIS championships, was named the OUA and CIS field events most valuable performer, earned first-team CIS all-Canadian and OUA all-star honours, led the Lions to a team CIS bronze medal for the first time since 1996 and capped her year by being named York's female athlete of the year.
Â
She has represented Canada internationally on multiple occasions, most recently winning a pair of bronze medals in the shot put and discus at the 2014 North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) U23 Championships in Kamloops, B.C. last summer.
Â
Since 1965, when the country made its Universiade debut, Canadians have captured 72 medals in athletics (6-35-31), second only to swimming's 104 podium finishes (22-32-45). The track and field competition in Gwangju will run from July 8 to 12.
