York University Lions wrestlers combined to win four medals, including two gold medals, at the McMaster Invitational in Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday (Oct. 29).
Only a small contingent was on hand to compete, but the Lions still reached the podium on the men's side with a third-place finish. The women ended up in fifth place with only three wrestlers competing.
Leading the way with gold medals were
Alexandria Town (Scarborough, Ont.) and
Shady El-Nahas (Toronto). Town was victorious in the women's 59kg division, bringing her season record to 7-0 with all her wins coming by pin or technical superiority. Among her victories on Saturday was one of Brock's Hannah Taylor, a former junior national medallist.
El-Nahas earned his gold medal in the men's 100kg weight class and, like Town, has been dominant this season. He now has an 8-0 record on the season and has won every match by pin.
Also picking up medals at McMaster were
Sebastian Galzote (Thornhill, Ont.) and
Mohab El-Nahas (Mississauga, Ont.). Galzote won the silver in the men's 65kg division, wrestling up a class at the meet, while El-Nahas claimed the bronze in the men's 90kg weight class.
The next varsity event for the Lions will be their own York Open on Sunday, Nov. 20 at the Tait McKenzie Centre.
